Incorporated 1890 in Virginia, the company was a pig iron manufacturer which was originally founded as Hileman, Waring & Co.(founded 1884, name changed in 1890). The company was formed to ensure an adequate supply of materials was available for processing as well as a rail line.
Originally a charcoal factory, the company expanded to coke and pig iron from ore on the company land. The furnaces were located near Clifton Forge, VA. The forge had a capacity of 20-30 tons daily and had 5 mile railway line to connect to the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, west of Clifton Forge.
Iron Gate is a town in Alleghany County, Virginia, United States. The population was 388 at the 2010 census.
