Incorporated in Delaware in 1918, the Wayne Steel Company manufactured basic open hearth steel, ingots, hot rolled strips, and bands. The company operated on East Lake Road in Erie, Pennsylvania. The company seized control of the United States Horse Shoe Company and operated their factory adjacent to the site. The company supplied steel for manufacturers of horse shoes. With the automobile, this business quickly declined and the company produced raw steel for other applications. The company operated two 25-ton open hearth furnaces in its production process. As with many small steel companies, it was merged into various other companies.
