Organized 1868 in Oakland ME, the business incorporation was later amended in 1883 and 1887 to redefine the scope of the enterprise. In 1911, the Maine Central acquired the Somerset Railway along with the Washington County Railway, and the Sebasticook and Moosehead Railroad. the line was eventually dissolved in 1929.
