Product Description
Lozak Laboratories stock certificate circa 1900 (Baltimore MD)
Great Baltimore collectible with a vignette of the company's liquid yogurt elixir in a bottle. Unissued and not cancelled. Circa 1900 from company records. Dated 19__.
Lozak Laboratories was a company started about 1900 in Baltimore Maryland. They produced a product that they advertised as a body builder for infants and adults. The company is thought to be the first to produce a yogurt drink commercially (their bottles are prized today) in the US. Unfortunately, there was no taste for the product. The company was merged into the Arden Company (20 West St Baltimore) which marketed Lozak milk (AKA Bulgarian Milk), a yogurt drink, into the 1930's.
Bulgarian buttermilk is a version of cultured buttermilk in which the cream cultures are supplemented or replaced by yogurt cultures and fermented at higher temperatures for higher acidity. It can be more tart and thicker than cultured buttermilk.
