Very nice mining collectible. Right offset vignette with old steam train passing an underground mine and miners. Unissued and not cancelled. Dated 187_. Circa 1873 from company records.
Incorporated in New York and operated coal mining operations near Kennells Mill PA, 10 miles north of Cumber land Maryland (as described on the certificate).Kennells Mill is located in Somerset County PA and sits near the Cumberland coal field. This company bought 12 tracts with the intent of mining, forming a town, and establishing a branch railroad. One of the founders was based in London and hoped to entice English investors. The stock was issued in US dollars and pounds sterling. During the mining boom, the area used the old water-driven grist mills to power woolen mills in Kennels Mill.
